bereit sein / being ready

Was entspricht unserer menschlichen Natur? (Zitat C. F.)

A well-known phenomenon: you bring a topic into focus and suddenly it pours in from all directions - through a newsletter, a podcast, a conversation. As a basically cheerful, positive person I devote much of my time on this earth to animals. Not only those, that are a part of our family, but all living beings I encounter on land and in water. The moment, animals take an important place in your life, and empathy is the engine behind your actions, animal protection becomes the logical consequence.

During a visit to an animal shelter the first thing I see is this sentence: "Saving one animal doesn't change the whole world, but the world changes for that animal."

None of us is able to change the entire world on our own, but nothing in the world changes, if we stay in this kind of mindset. If we don't move, nothing moves. If we don't create something positive, nothing positive can take shape. We don't want war and yell at other drivers from our cars, pushing in and honking in traffic jams. We want peace and eat animals from cruel factory farms after tortuously long transports to slaughterhouses, where - before they are killed - the animals inhale the smell of death and panic. We want to end famines and produce food, that we ultimately throw away in order to keep prices high. We want to be free and we are constantly dissatisfied, because we compare ourselves with our neighbours and strangers on social media. We want tolerance and judge, what's different. We want understanding and don't understand others.

WE are the ONLY way to peace, contentment, freedom and happiness. If we positively change something for another living being, that's the famous stone tossed into water: the ripples spread far. And if we sow peace and freedom for another living being without expectation of profit, that is without expecting anything in return, purely out of empathy, then we don't just change the world for that living being: we truly change the world for all of us. Every living being, human or animal, has at least one connection to another living being, which in turn is connected to another living being. In this idea all living beings on Earth are connected and what happens to one reaches all, directly or indirectly.

I'm quoting Dr. Edyta Wolska: "On a summer day no one asks the sun, why it's shining . And the sun doesn't ask the earth "What are you going to give me for it?". The sun shines, because that corresponds to its nature. It doesn't expect thanks."

What corresponds to our human nature? I believe it's empathy, the ability to feel with all living beings. It's not there yet. We still lack compassion. "But the time will come and until then those, who are already there, have to keep topics like animal welfare in focus, so they'll be ready for the day, when people are ready for compassion." (quote C.F.)
